Westerplatte

A heroic place of Gdansk, located on the Westerplatte peninsula. It gained fame in September, 1939 when 180 Polish soldier, under the leadership o Major Henryk Sucharski, stood their ground against the superior German attackers. At present, one can see there the monument of the Defenders of the Coast, the cemetery of the dead Polish soldiers, the Guardhouse no.1 and the ruins of other buildings.
